Petie

The Holts found a dog that has apparently been running around the neighborhood for a short time.  They cam and borrowed a leash and were walking the poor thing and taking such good care of it.  He was a cute little Chihuahua, but it had no name on it and we were sure that it had a family.  They didn't find it until later in the day when the vet's office was closed.

Kyson and Kodi started playing with the dog as well and of course, they fell in love with it.  Who can resist a cute little dog that's new?  Well, as the evening drew on, there was no where for the poor dog to sleep for the night, so they Holts asked if we could take him for the night since they don't have a fenced yard - we obliged.

Kyson and Kodi are big "Little Rascal's" fans and on the movie there is a dog named Petie.  The kids started calling him that since we didn't know his name.  I went with it.  Considering we would only have him for one night, I didn't see the harm.

As night started, we spent most of the time trying to get the dogs to get along.  Leroy was the problematic child.  He's very territorial and was basically emotionally abusive to poor Petie.  He wouldn't attack him, he would just scare him so much he didn't dare move without Leroy's blessing.  When it was time for bed, we put our dogs in the kennel as usual and I put Petie in the back yard.  He cried.  He cried loudly and for a long time, and finally I decided I couldn't leave him out there.  But where to put a dog that I didn't know?  He could destroy my house!  I decided to put him in Kyson's room and shut the door.  Damage to one room would be better than a sleepless night.

The next morning, with apprehension, I opened Kyson's bedroom door to survey the damage.  Petie popped his head out from under Kyson's blankets and jumped off the bed, ready to go outside to go to the bathroom.  There was no damage and a peaceful night.  That morning while we got ready for the day, the kids were begging to keep him.  That's not going to happen - I already have 5 children including my children, dogs, and husband.  I'm not going to add another.

That day, the Holt's took the dog tot he vet and it had a microchip.  They left the dog at the vet's office and they were going to take care of the dog and get him back to its family.  Thankfully, the story ended well and we had a mini-adventure with a new dog.
