Crappy Weather but Great Company

We typically go to Bear Lake once a month between Memorial day and Labor day.  In June, we had a weekend, but the weather was crappy, and my dad was out of town.  We decided to invite some friends with us and I'm so glad we did.  Brian and Jennifer have a 4 year old daughter, Ellie, who is one of Kyson's friends.  They're in the same church class and she even sacrificed a soccer game to go to his birthday party - now that's a true friend.

So we all headed up Friday afternoon after I got off work and the place had been overcome by these seed/pod things from our neighbor's tree. It was annoying and they were being tracked into the house left and right.  I pulled out some brooms so I could try and clean some of it up, and Brian and Jen jumped right in helping out.  What gracious guests to help clean up when they're not even asked.  We got settled in and decided to go up to Garden City to buy some shakes.  There was a playground for the kids to enjoy while we ordered and waited for our shakes, and there was a tiny picnic bench the perfect size for young kids.  Kyson and Ellie sat down and ate their shakes while chatting - her mom said they looked like they were on a date.  It was adorable.

The weekend didn't ever get adventurous.  We spent most of the time in the house becuase it was so windy or cold, but a getaway is a getaway and I loved it.  At one point, we decided to do some sidewalk drawing and even Jen got in on the fun and gave the spider red eyes.  It was so nice to be with people who liked to play games and we played a lot of them.  We watched Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which I have to say wasn't as good as I had hoped.  Maybe I came in with too high of expectations.

The kids had their moments of disagreement, which is to be expected, but I really enjoyed having them up.  I hope they'll join us again.
